About Me
I’m Roberto Gaspari, an IT professional with 40+ years across software engineering, Linux system administration, and DevOps. From CP/M and 8086 assembler to cloud stacks, I build reliable, maintainable solutions—from embedded/automation to enterprise web platforms.
Highlights
- End-to-end delivery: device control & embedded logic, web apps, data flows.
- Critical workflows (medical, logistics, e-commerce), with access control & auditability.
- Systems: Debian/Linux, cPanel & Virtualmin/Webmin, Postfix/Dovecot, Cloudflare DNS, Hetzner Storage Box + Synology NAS.
Tech Stack
Assembler (8086)C / C++ Clipper (dBase)Pascal / Turbo Pascal PHPMariaDB/MySQL HTML/CSS/JSBootstrap FPDF/FPDIPHPMailer Debian/Linux node.js Python Managed Servers
Services
- Custom web apps & APIs (from scratch).
- Linux server setup, hardening, monitoring, maintenance.
- Migrations, performance tuning, incident response.
- Process analysis & technical consulting.
Timeline
- 1980s — CP/M & 8086 assembler; FidoNet BBS “Miditel” (300 bps → US Robotics 33.6k); TASM modules based on INT60 to move robots (wanna see jurassic code? :-)
- 1990s — RVM (Tasm+Clipper/MS-DOS) for Videobank, DEA, VideoStore kiosks pioneering SMS bookings & Teledrin (See Jurassic); 90s Internet data links.
- 2000s — WinVideo (C++/Windows) for Buster24h kiosks and back office admin (Windows port, multimedia UI, payments). WinVideo and VisualRent
- 2000s–2010s — BUSTERSPID and BUSTERPHARMA: main software (PHP/Bootstrap) for robotic medical cabinets (secure dispensing, FIFO, audit, full traceability).
- 2010s — PHP and Python ERP for logistics; multi-actor CRM; from-scratch BLOCKBUSTERTM for italian "BlockbusterVillage" stores, full software (Windows + WEB Apps)
- 2020s — Web/mobile app for relocation workflows (timeline, documents, e-signature, notifications). Systems & DevOps for SMEs.

Systems & DevOps — ongoing
Ops portfolio
- Server setup/hardening, monitoring/alerting, periodic upgrades and incident response.
- Migrations with minimal downtime; mail deliverability (SPF/DKIM/DMARC).
RVM – Rental Video Manager (Videobank) — 1990s
Context & Challenges
- Automated videocassette vending for Videobank with strict reliability and low resources (DOS era).
- Unreliable dial-up lines; limited RAM/storage; need for remote data sync and field diagnostics.
What I built
- Machine control layer (motors/sensors), secure dispense/return cycles, failsafes.
- Inventory, rentals, penalties, user auth; SMS reservations and early Teledrin notifications.
- 1990s Internet interconnection for logs, telemetry and configuration.
Impact
- Stable 24/7 operation with remote support; rapid recovery from line failures; long service lifetime.
WinVideo – Buster24h (Windows port) — 2000s → today
Context & Challenges
- Rewrite/port of RVM to Windows for Buster24h (VHS/DVD), modern UI and payment integrations.
- Need for remote maintenance and telemetry across distributed machines.
What I built
- Operator UI; payment channels; reporting and diagnostics.
- Remote sync of configs/logs; improved security and anti-tampering.
Impact
- Reduced support time; better usability; continuity in legacy retail contexts.
BUSTERSPID – Robotic medical cabinet (Hospitals & Pharmacies) — 2011→
Context & Challenges
- Medication dispensing with traceability, safety and role-based access under clinical constraints.
- Cut ward stock, reduce errors, provide full audit trail.
What I built
- Core cabinet software: ruster & single-pick logic, door/lock control, barcode flows, FIFO rules, checks on “stopped” drugs.
- Real-time stock states (internal, external, opened); roles (physicians, nurses, head nurses, pharmacists).
- Integration with prescribing suite (patients, therapies, orders, audits, statistics).
Measured results (pilot)
- Ward stock reduction up to 72% (Medicine I) and 37% (Surgery B).
- Lower medication errors; better prescribing appropriateness; improved traceability.
ERP – Logistics suite in PHP — 2010s
Scope
- WMS, orders, picking/packing, shipments, suppliers, customers, KPIs & reporting.
- Role-based access, responsive UI, performance tuning for multi-user workloads.
Outcome
- End-to-end visibility; reduced manual steps and reconciliation time.
Relocation workflow & CRM (multi-party) — 2020s
What it solves
- Single hub for agency, clients and professionals (notary, bank, accountants).
- Task timeline, secure document hub, e-signature, automated notifications.
Impact
- Fewer errors and handoffs; faster cycle; complete history for audits.
BLOCKBUSTER™ italian stores
Features
- Registration & auth, roles (participants/jury/admin), moderation.
- Media/video handling, public pages, backoffice workflows.
